45 MPH - 45 minutes of Music, Prayer, and Hope

Our prayer is that the worship experience will be more than just a one night stand. We hope it will invoke new insights, questions, thoughts, reflections, ideas, etc., and open your heart and mind to God throughout the week.

This page was designed to give you a flavor of our evening worship service.  Initially, we thought we would be able to update it every week, but alas, we weren't able to do this on a regular basis.  So, please consider these entries as samples of what happens on a Sunday night!

You are welcome to add your reflections and thoughts in a blog format.

And remember, you are always welcome to share your thoughts, struggles, experiences, reflections, etc., during the next worship experience.

Greetings! Below is a sample of some of our Sunday night worship experiences. Although we had hoped to blog an entry each week, we found that we just weren't getting it done in a timely fashion, but still thought that it might be helpful to keep on the website for those who might want a taste of what goes on! You can use this blog to share your reflections or questions, to share something that happened to you during the week, or just to check out what you missed. You can also use the blog to share your prayer requests. You are welcome to join us any Sunday evening!

Burdens Part II - 4/26/2009

Did you bring your burdens with you to our evening gathering?  Of course you did!  Are you ready to relinquish them to God?  Well...maybe....

We hope that you feel free to worship God in ways that are meaningful to you - to sing if you wish or just to listen, to stand, sit, kneel if the Spirit moves you to worship.  Feel free to interject - if God is speaking to you, there may be others who also need to hear the question, comment, words of hope.  Make this a meaningful worship experience for you.

Ever Feel like this?

Easter Sunset Service - 4/12/2009   Our church has traditionally had a sunrise service on Easter, so it seemed appropriate to hold a sunset service.  We had thought about going to the cemetery for our evening service, but the logistics for our musicians and the uncertainty of the weather kept us inside.  Actually that's probably more appropriate anyway since we know that Christ has risen and it is futile to be searching for him in the grave (Hallelujah!).  Here are some slide excerpts from the service (without the music).  The Crosspoint "Voices from the Edge" skit dealt with the fears and hopes of a child waiting to be born and the fears and hopes of one who knows that death is inevitable. There are some striking similarities between the two situations.  Easter S ... Read More »

Psalm Sunday - 4/5/2009   Given that it was Palm Sunday, we thought we'd play around and make it a Psalm Sunday experience.  Using Timothy Botts beautiful calligraphy art work of the Psalms, we spent time enjoying the words and art of the scriptures.  Here are excerpts of the slides from that evening.

Temptations 3/29/2009 - Here's the slide show we used for service.  It's tempting to say more, but we'll let this suffice for now! http://www.fbcinessex.org/site/Portals/0/Member_Temptation%2003.29.09.pdf

Hungering for God - 3/22/2009  -  There's an unspoken hunger in America (and around the world) - a spiritual hunger that people are seeking to satisfy.  There's an interesting phenomenon that's happening today.  Scientist are finding that people are eating more, but their bodies are sending signals that more food is needed.  Why?  Because the type of foods fed to the body aren't satisfying the nutritional needs of the body. The same can be said for our spiritual diets.  We're seeking to feed our souls by consuming material and physical "foods" that don't really satisfy.  So we find our selves still hungry, still craving a fix of some sort - opening the "refrigerator" and hoping to find something that will satisfy:  relationships, status, money, possessions, self-help books, etc.  It's time t Read More »

10/24/2008 - "Going Through the Motions" - Well, due to technical difficulties, we didn't have a chance to delve into the topic so we'll save it for another time.  Instead, it seemed a good time to discuss the future of the Friday Fishwrap.  For a variety of reasons, we will be switching to an early Sunday evening service March 22, 2009.  We'll continue to meet for a little while in November, but feel that a different time and day may meet the needs of more people.  Let us know if you might be one of them!  More to come later....

10/17/2008 - "Manna"   God heard their complaints and brought them out of Egypt - out of slavery and bondage.  Then they rose their voices again, bemoaning that they were taken from the land of plenty into the empty wilderness.  God heard their complaints and responded with the promise of manna and quail.  Later they would complain of the monotony of manna and quail...

10/10/2008 "Sat-7" What in the world is Sat-7?  It is a way in which the word of God is being introduced to many countries where censorship abounds and freedom of religion is restrictive.  Unlike the USA, satellite reception is free in the  Middle East and North Africa - all you need is a satellite dish and a TV and hundreds of channels are yours to view!

10/3/2008 - "Anger!!"  What makes you angry?  What does your anger lead you to do?  Have you ever gotten so angry that you broke something?  Scared yourself?  Caused you to do something that you never believed you would do?  What does God have to say about anger?
